Meet the Trainers

   

Dwayne Horn

Dwayne was born on the naval base in Norfolk, Virginia, and moved with his family to Deming, New Mexico six years later. He participated in basketball, football and track throughout his school years in Deming. Dwayne received a basketball scholarship from Mesa State and played for the Mavericks for four years. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Human Performance and Wellness with a concentration in Corporate Fitness. After graduation, Dwayne became a certified personal trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness, and was certified as a Group Exercise Instructor through Aerobic Fitness Association of America. Dwayne is pleased to have trained many clients, including Hollywood actress Rachel McAdams and model AC Brown.

Dwayne enjoys seeing people live healthy and productive lives. He believes that staying in shape is the best gift you can give yourself. His motto is “Work hard, play hard.”

   


Laurie Broyles

Laurie attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and Mesa State College, receiving her Exercise/Science Degree in 2001. She was a member of the Mesa State Tennis team, and continues to enjoy playing tennis. She is also very passionate when it comes to running and she loves to endurance train. She enjoys spending her free time with her
family and their Golden Retriever.

Laurie has experienced over 6 years in the Fitness Industry, working at Crossroads Fitness and the YMCA in Colorado Springs. She also worked for Biotest Laboratories, a Sports Supplement Company based out of Colorado Springs. Laurie enjoys Personal Training, as well as teaching Lifestyles Classes. She loves to work with all ages, specializing in fat loss, cardiovascular fitness, general strengthening, rehabilitation, and pre-natal and post-natal exercises. She is a strong believer in making exercise fun and making it a lifestyle for everyone!

Don Holmes

Don’s football, coaching and training careers are quite extensive. Football highlights include playing wide receiver at the University of Colorado, where he was a college standout, earning All-Big Eight Conference honors as a sophomore. Don was drafted into the NFL by the Atlanta Falcons in 85, and he played six seasons in the NFL as a wide receiver and special team member. He also earned two pro bowl alternate positions while playing for the Arizona Cardinals.

As a coach, Don has served as the Offensive Coordinator to the Colorado Avalanche and the Grand Junction Outlaws semi-pro teams, as well as Head Coach to the Grand Valley Eagles semi-pro team. He has also served as Wide Receiver Coach to the East-West Shrine Game 06, and the Cologne Centurions NFL Europe 07. He was an NFL Intern Special Team Assistant to the Jacksonville Jaguars 05, and to the Washington Redskins 08. Presently, Donnie is the Wide Receiver Coach at Mesa State College, where he has been since 04.

In addition to his Fitness Training role at Crossroads Fitness, Donnie had the unique opportunity to train and compete in Body Building under the mentoring of 7-time “Mr. Olympia” Lee Haney, and Body Builder competitor, Tony Pearson.


   


Rebecca Felix

After earning the honor of Valedictorian of her high school class, Rebecca graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Colorado with a BA in Psychology. She worked four years as a marketing analyst for a large software company before returning to Grand Junction.

Rebecca had joined Crossroads when she was 17 and fell in love with Group Exercise classes. She followed her passion for Step Class, and attained certification by the Aerobic Fitness Association of America as an Aerobic Instructor. She has also been certified as a Personal Trainer. Having taught for twelve years, Rebecca is a veteran instructor… Crossroads is fortunate to have had her for nine of those years.

Rebecca sets a good example with a good attitude, enthusiasm and professionalism. She has two sons, Joshua and Brendon. Hobbies include singing.  

   

Heidi Lobato

Crossroads is pleased to have enjoyed Heidi as a group exercise instructor for 6 years thus far. Heidi teaches a variety of classes including Step, Chisel, Pilates, Getting Started and Kickboxing. She enjoys teaching basic exercise principles to clients who are just beginning an exercise regimen. Her strength is keeping exercise programs fun and simple. This encourages increased adherence to a healthier lifestyle.

Eric Brunner

Eric has a great love for the outdoors; backpacking, hunting, snow skiing, boating, water skiing and jet skiing. He also has a zeal for working out, which he shares through his Personal Training at Crossroads. Eric has been with Crossroads for twelve years. In addition, Eric has taught full time at Grand Junction High School, and is serving as an Intervention Specialist at GJHC.

Eric’s education includes certification in Aerobic Pipe Line, 4-year degree in Human Performance and Wellness, Psychology Minor, Speech Minor, Physical Education Teaching Certificate K-12, and a Masters Degree in Education Technology. The proof of Eric’s abilities as a Personal Trainer are the many long-term clients he maintains. 

    Zach King

Zach has enjoyed sports and fitness all of his life. After he graduated from Wiggins High School in Wiggins, Colorado, Zach continued his education at Mesa State. It is there that he graduated in Human Performance and Wellness, with an emphasis in Athletic Training. Zach then changed direction to establish a career as a college minister.

Returning to the fitness world, he now enjoys two careers. As a Trainer,
Zach specializes in helping individuals with injuries and those who wish to continue exercise after rehab. Zach also enjoys training anyone who wants to improve their life long fitness.  

 
   




Mary Coleman

Mary Coleman has a BA in Sports and Fitness Management. She has gained the knowledge and skills necessary to motivate anyone looking to start their fitness journey, as well as those who have become stagnant in their current routines. She has the diversity and passion needed to ensure her clients will get the results they want without being bored or unmotivated using a variety of up to date techniques.

She specializes in everything from sports conditioning, plyometrics, cross training, weight loss, weight gain, strength, interval and circuit training, as well as core conditioning. She incorporates the latest in fitness trends using flexibility and balance, while always placing an emphasis on proper technique to ensure that your maximum potential is achieved.

Mary designs programs that contribute to an overall healthy lifestyle and accommodates life-changes so her clients can remain active and strong.  Whatever your personal goal may be Mary is here to push you beyond your own current expectations, pushing you to become a better you.




   

Janae Steward

Janae is a Grand Junction native who recently returned to after a short adventure in New York City. While there, she worked primarily as a Personal Fitness Trainer. Prior to that, Janae worked as a group fitness instructor at Crossroads. She is thrilled to be back in GJ – again living "the good life”! Janae is exceptionally passionate about fitness, and looks forward to motivating those who desire an exciting lifestyle change by working together to discover what specifically motivates that individual. Janae firmly believes that by finding an activity one enjoys most, everyone can enjoy exercise! She hopes to inspire and assist people of all ages and all levels.

Janae has over 15 years of dance experience, a BA in musical theatre, is a certified Group Fitness Instructor, and is a certified Personal Trainer. Her comfort of being in front of people plays an important role in connecting with her clients and classes. Janae is thrilled to be training, teaching, and serving the members of Crossroads!

Allen Russell

 Allen focuses specifically on improved performance in running, swimming and triathlon events having worked with runners of all abilities, beginning to elite and training swimmers and runners for 30 years. Your training program will be tailored to your individual strengths while strengthening areas which may need additional work to help you to reach your goals.

Through a focus on functional fitness and the utilization of integrated muscle training your personalized workouts will lead to improved overall motor abilities, high levels of functional strength, neuromuscular efficiency, increased balance and dynamic flexibility. Each workout will incorporate full body workouts with specific areas of deficiency being addressed. This training is ideal for every body whether you are just embarking on a new lifestyle, wanting to improve your overall wellness or wanting to improve athletic performance.

Melissa Mock

 Melissa comes to Crossroads Fitness with 17 years of dance experience in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, modern and lyrical. She has also taught dance for 13 of those years.

Melissa is a certified personal trainer and holds a certification through the American Fitness Professionals & Associates. (AFPA) She is also a group fitness instructor and teaches Floor Barre.

She is married with two children and currently attending Mesa State in Criminal Justice. She is attending the POST Academy to become a Police Officer.

Melissa believes that helping others obtain a healthy life is one of the best things she can offer.

 

Eric Ward

Eric is a native of and attended college in the Midwest. He now resides in Grand Junction after several relocation moves across the country with an automotive manufacturer.

Eric has always been very active in sports throughout his high school and college years.  Training was always an integral part of being in optimal physical and mental shape to perform at peak levels. He became more engaged in training others as he visited different workout facilities across the country.  He saw how he could help those who wanted to reach and maintain good physical and mental fitness.

Eric received his personal training certification from YMCA of the USA. In his training sessions he will focus on working a muscle group from different angles while isolating that particular muscle to help the client achieve their desired results.

Eric believes in maintaining and balancing the ‘triangle’ of cardio, diet and weight resistant training. Eric emphasizes to his clients consistently that “form and technique are key.”

Kristen Schnake

Born and raised in Loveland, Colorado, Kristen has always had a love for sports and staying active.  Growing up, Kristen enjoyed playing volleyball, basketball and golf.  This love for sports earned a volleyball scholarship to Mesa State.

While attending Mesa State, Kristen studied Exercise Science and discovered that she wanted to help encourage and inspire others to reach their fitness goals by becoming a personal trainer.  Kristen earned her degree and plans to continue her education in pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition.

Outside the gym, she loves to explore the outdoors whether it be hiking or snowboarding.  She enjoys being around her family and friends.  She welcomes all that life throws her way!
